MY BACK AND LEG IS ON FIRE.

by: Steve on Thu, Jun 19 2008

After suffering with lower back pain for over 20 years, and having 2 back surgeries I thought I was in good shape. A little over a year ago I started with the numbness going down my entire left leg into my foot. The pain became increasingly worse as time went by. i went to an Orthopedic surgeon in Boston. On May 22,2008 I had a laminectomy done on my L4-L5 disc. The disc was removed and 4 screws and 2 rods were put in. After waking up the pain in my left leg was completely gone. BUT my right hip and leg, down to my outer knee was numb. I spoke to the surgeon about this and was told that it was probably from the way they had me strapped onto the operating table and it would go away. During my 3 days in the hospital the numbness went away and was replaced by a constant burning in my lower back, both buttocks, down the outer part of my right leg and into my knee. Anything below the knee is fine. I have been examined by my surgeon and all reflexs on both legs are fine. He has me on 10mg of oxycotin every 8 hours, 5-10mg of oxycodone if the pain and burning is not eased up by the oxycontin. I am also on 300mg a day of Lyrica. The burning is alliviated some taking all these meds, but the burning prevents me from sitting any more than 10 minutes, or standing more than 10 minutes. The only relief that I find is bed rest. The pain will subside greatly as long as I shift from one side to the other. I am scheduled for a CT Scan and MRI today to see what is going on. I have never had the burning sensation that I now am experiencing. I have had severe back pain and pain going down my the back of my legs. But I have never felt the pain that this burning sensation generates. I expected pain from the surgery and I can live with that, but this burning is relentless compared to the back pain.
