My life with MRSA

by: Amy on Fri, Jun 27 2008

I am a 18 year old, i have had MRSA since i was 17 years old. My first break out of it was under my arm, and i had to go to the e.r. and have it drained. One of the most painful things i have ever been through. Over the next week i was in and out of doctors’ offices and disease specialists. I found out my strand and learned that i can not take anything but sulfa when i break out. Then learning that to much sulfa will make it so i have to get my kidneys washed out. Over that year i had a lot more breakouts, mainly on my side. I had to live in a bubble. And had to change my life style. I was a normally clean person but this pushed me farther. Well what they failed to tell me that i was a carrier. I started to date a guy who really fell for me, and we got very close and personal, and what do you know, he purposed to me. I accepted of course, but a week later he had this huge red swollen lump on his chest. I took him to the e.r., and he had it drained..yes you can guess, he has a staph infection. Lab tests show that it is MRSA. I went to my doctor and asked them to check to see if i was a carrier, and i am…It made me feel really gross and dirty, and i felt like a complete outcast, but i also remember i am not the only one going through this, and i can prevent it from happening again by taking more precautions, and now knowing i am a carrier, i can prevent more people from getting it.
